NATHAN KOREN ~~ PRESIDENT

Nathan Koren pic

Originally hailing from Northern California, Nathan was trained as an architect at Arizona State University, and worked in a green architecture firm in Portland for several years before moving to the UK to attend the Said Business School at Oxford University in pursuit of a Master of Business Administration. After graduating with his MBA, Nathan took up a role as Project Studies Manager in an alternative transportation firm in western England, where he currently works. Nathan has extensive travel experience, including living and working as an architect in Northwestern India, and several years experience of working in the non-profit sector. His particular interests in Bola Moyo center in organizational development and knowledge management, areas in which he has considerable expertise. You can reach Nathan on nathan[at]bola-moyo.org.

CARA PATTISON ~~ VICE PRESIDENT
Cara Pattison

Cara’s first taste of Africa occurred on her 16th birthday, when she went to visit her grandparents who were living in Burkina Faso. After she graduated from California State University, Chico with a degree in Communication Design, she returned to Africa, this time to Malawi, where she and her husband worked as short-term AIDS educators. Cara served as Bola Moyo’s Executive Director from November 2004 through July 2007. She is the former co-chair of the Portland Area Global AIDS Coalition, and is a current board member and volunteer of Jubilee Oregon. She continues to design Bola Moyo’s newsletters and marketing materials while working full-time in the field of alternative medicine. You can reach Cara on cara[at]bola-moyo.org.

RON KNAPP ~~ TREASURER
Ron Knapp

Ron is an Executive V.P. at Toyon Associates, Inc. (21 years) a healthcare financial consulting firm located in Northern California working with over 50 non-profit and governmental hospitals. Ron helps manage Toyon’s staff of 36 and is involved with practice development. He has been actively involved in his local church having been on the Pastoral Team, Leadership Board, and as a Pastor to High School students during his 14 years there. Ron is a graduate of CSU, Chico and has a BS in Business Administration with an Accounting concentration. You can reach Ron on ron[at]bola-moyo.org

BETSY NOLAN ~~ MEMBER

Betsy Nolan pic

Betsy holds a Bachelors in Community Development (with a concentration in Community Organization) from Portland State University and she is the Research Assistant at PSU’s Regional Research Institute. She has considerable experience with non-profits, including Temple of Sound, Try/on Life Community Farm, Grassroots Campaigns, AFS (an international study abroad organization), and Green Mountain Energy. Her international experience includes Community Development fieldwork in Nicaragua as well as an internship working with Instituto de Acción Communitaria in the Dominican Republic. Betsy’s primary interest in non-profits lays in organizational development and leadership transition. You can reach Betsy on betsy@bola-moyo.org.

RICHARD WHITE

Richard White pic

Richard is a Professor of Urban Studies and Planning at Portland State University, where he teaches courses in the University Studies Program, the Community Development undergraduate program, and annual International Community Development field seminars in Nicaragua.

He also teaches urban studies and urban ministry courses for North Portland Bible College, a non-denominational African-American Bible College; is a member of the board of Instituto Teologico del Oeste (Theological Institute of the Northwest); and advisory board member for Bikes to Rwanda and the NAPE Foundation (Ghana).

Richard is a contributing editor of Cultural Encounters, journal for the Theology of Culture; and member of the editorial board of Community Development Practice, online journal of the Community Development Society. He is also a member of the Evangelical Missiological Society, Community Development Society (member of the International committee), and the Society for Values in Higher Education. Richard also consults with domestic and foreign faith-based organizations on issues related to community building, community development, and intercultural relationships.

Dr. White holds a Ph.D. and a Masters in Urban Studies from Portland State University; a Master of Divinity from Emmanuel School of Religion, and a B.A. from San José Christian College.
